In all eight Town players netted in the competition. John Wark's 14 goals equaled the previous best ever tally by a single player in European club competitions (the record was set by Jose Altafini of AC Milan in 62-63). He also scored two hat-tricks.

9. Widzew Lodz (home) 77 minutes. Mariner heads on an O'Callaghan cross for Wark to secure his 2nd hat-trick of the competition.

11. St. Etienne (home) 83 minutes. St. Etienne's Larios handles in the area and Wark thumps home the resulting penalty.

13. AZ 67 Alkmaar (home) 28 minutes. Hovenkamp handles on the goal line and Wark steps up to slot home his 5th penalty in the competition.

14. AZ 67 Alkmaar (away) 32 minutes. Muhren's corner is flicked on by Mariner and Wark hits the back of the net to equal Altafini's record.

2. Widzew Lodz (home) 70 minutes. Muhren hits magnificent cross with the outside of his left foot for Mariner to head home.

3. St. Etienne (away) 28 minutes. Mariner leaps above the opposition defence to head home Muhren's curling centre.

4. St. Etienne (away) 57 minutes. Scores with a fierce left-foot shot from 25 yards.

5. St. Etienne (home) 89 minutes. Hammers the ball into the net to complete the French side's rout.

6. AZ 67 Alkmaar (home) 56 minutes. Brazil skips passed Dutch defender van der Meer, crosses to Mariner who flicks the ball into the far corner of the net.
