| I went to school with Clive and he was in my brother Robert`s class at Sheringham Primary School. He was a remarkable athlete at the earliest age, and excelled at all sports. A few years back I was on a trip to the UK from Colorado and was hitching just outside Norwich headed towards Cromer. I jumped in a car that stopped for me and looked up to see Clive at the wheel. I said hello and asked him if he knew who I was - what a twisted question to a professional goalie... Well, he did indeed remember me and we had a nice chat. I have a VHS tape of him playing for Ipswich which I saw on Soccer Made in Europe over here in the States. Its pretty neat to find him on this web site. | Just thought I`d search this really! Our family were quite close friends with Clive and his family when we lived near them in Wakefield. I used to be friends with his son and my mum went to pre natal classes with his wife! Talk about connection! I was only about 2 when I knew his son btu we stil get christmas cards etc! | Clive was indeed an oakwell hero the finest we`ve ever had making up for his lack of inches with agility that defied belief.
He was the reason that me and my pal Rich became custodians ourselves. He endeared himself to us so much that we followed his progress after unforgivably being allowed to leave by ironically another ex canary Mel Machin when he still had much to offer.
My defining moment was running onto the pitch at Oakwell after a reserve game where Clive played to his normal high standard for Coventry, me and Rich ran on with me hitting the canvas after a stumble in the box.
We were jumping on Clive giving him hero adulation in front of about 50 people, very funny.

| I am a current colleague of Clive Baker at his insurance job in London. I would point out that Clive no longer plays football, and has never coached at Sheffield Wednesday, and this is in fact another Clive Baker. Same name, different person.

| A native of Norfolk (Clive comes from North Walsham), his footballing successes occurred outside his home county. In seven years at Carrow Road, he made just sixteen appearances as Kevin Keelan and Chris Woods occupied the Number One shirt. One of my earliest footballing memories is the Canaries' FA Cup defeat at Maine Road which saw John Bond's Manchester City put six past Clive without reply. A move to Barnsley in 1984 resulted in 291 appearances for the Yorkshire side with Clive twice winning the Player of the Year award. In 1991 he joined Coventry as cover for Steve Ogrizovic but made only a single League Cup appearance. The following year saw him join newly promoted Ipswich Town as cover for Craig Forrest. Clive managed to displace his rival and accumulate 48 appearances for Norwich's arch-rivals. Knee injuries forced his retirement at the age of 37. Mike Davage revealed in his article "Canaries Wingin It Everywhere" in the 1997/98 Norwich City handbook that Clive was signed by Sudbury Town (Jewson Eastern Counties League) as non-contract cover for their goalkeepers.
