| Wilf became the first and still (I believe) the only Ipswich player to score hat-tricks in consecutive matches. The first came in the 6-2 home win against Millwall on 22-10-1955 and the second in a 5-1 win at Reading on 29-10-1955. Ralph 08-07-2010 |
| At £7,500 from Cardiff he was Manager Scott Duncan's most expensive signing. Gained 1 England B Cap. Was player/manager at Llanelli. Cardiff City coaching/training staff 1958-62. Bristol Rovers scout December 1962. Bromsgrove manager December 1974 to December 1975. At one time was a college sportsmaster. Was an amateur at Newcastle United. | Wilf Grant was something of a hero for many [Cardiff] supporters of the 1950's who thought the world of him at the time and spoke in almost reverential tones about him for years afterwards, although I have to say that his playing days were well over by the time I started watching professional football. He eventually made his way back to Cardiff City and was coach to the 1959-60 promotion winning side. He was sacked during the 1962-63 season after a row with a board member but what happened to him after that I don't know. The last I've managed to trace him to was as manager of Bromsgrove Rovers in about 1975, and after that the trail goes cold. Jon Howell 23-12-2002 |
