Our comments

Initially appeared for Town as a guest player, whilst still a serviceman, following the end of WWII. Later signed professional forms for the club after demobilisation. Held the record for the most first team appearances before it was broken by Mick Mills in the 1970's. Was a railway clerk prior to the outbreak of war.  (2002-12-23)

Your comments

Ralph: Scored after just 15 seconds in a home league game against Millwall on 22-10-1955. Town went on to record a 6-2 victory. Not the fastest Town goal ever though - that honour belongs to Doug Millward who hit the back of the net after 10 seconds against Newport County at Portman Road in February 1957. (2010-07-08)

A Ross: Town added Tommy posthumously to the club’s Hall of Fame at the Players’ Reunion Dinner held at the club on the 16th April 2010 (2010-04-17)

saraa: that's my grandad, wheyy! (: (2008-01-08)

oleg_mcnoleg (Ipswich): A goal appears to be missing from his 1946/7 league account. (2007-11-29)

martyn elmy (ipswich town): Tommy was a very keen fisherman and regularly fished at West Hanningfield reservoir near Chelmsford with my brother Robert Elmy who was also an ex-HMS Ganges boy and workd on match days with Basil Acres and Tommy in the Development office. (2007-06-27)

Andy Button (Ipswich): Died 1996 (2006-06-03)

Linda Dye: Tommy played rugby union at school and played for England against Wales at Cardiff Arms Park at schoolboy level in 1938. He was stationed at Ganges, Shotley towards the end of the war and was later signed for Ipswich by Scott Duncan. He was manger Alf Ramseys first captain. After retiring from football due to a back injury, he kept a pub for a few years in Stowmarket. He returned to work for the football club in 1965 as development manager and by the time he retired in 1985 he was the clubs first commercial manager. (2002-12-23)
