Our comments

Played in Town's first ever Football League game on August 27th, 1938 at Portman Road, when Southend United were the visitors.

George Butler: I find I must drop you a line from an interest angle. I am eighty one years of age, but must confess I was never a footballer, nor a supporter even. However, I saw the name Mick Burns whilst surfing and my memory jumped right back to the 1930s. I was going to school at the time in LEEHOLME, and I can see Mickie Burns in my mind now like it was yesterday. He played at that time for NEWCASTLE, and he walked around LEEHOLME wearing plus fours (An international football player was indeed somebody) I can remember a day I asked him in the street if he had any cigarette cards, but can't remember if I got one or not.  (2002-12-23)
