| I had the great pleasure of knowing Ken in the late 50's.
He was always charming and ready for a chat.
I remember when Ipswich were drawn away to Manchester United in the cup in 1958 and Ken's comment was, "We'll be playing the second best team in England!"
On a few occassions he gave up his free time to coach our Wednesday League club.
Once he offered myself and a friend tickets for an away game at Derby. In those days it wasn't easy to travel so we regretably had to turn them down.

| Ken was my Uncle,but after his mother-in-laws death (my granny) many years ago in Aberdeen, we had lost touch, and found through wikipedia Ken had passed away. | Ken signed me for Ipswich in 1964 as part of the first youth system under Jackie Milburn. Ken was a great footballer and a real gentleman. I remember the night he came into the dressing room after a game for Waterside Works and approached my father for me to sign for Ipswich. A great memory

| Born in Scotland, Ken Malcolm was considered by many to be the best left back of this generation, and while that may have been his chosen position he was also a quite versatile player, so much so that during his first season with Town he played in no less than eight different positions, scoring twice when put up front. Signed by A. Scott Duncan in 1954 he became a first team regular under Alf Ramsey in the 1955-56 season, won a Third Division (South) Championship medal the following year and a Second Division Championship medal in 1960-61. Sadly he picked up a knee injury in the early stages of Town’s League Championship campaign and that, compounded with a back problem, meant he played just three games in that epic season. He made a brief comeback the following campaign, and had the honour of captaining Town in their very first European Cup game against Floriana of Malta in September 1962. Malcolm, then aged 36, and Town, won convincingly by ten-goals-to-nil. After retiring from the playing side of the game in 1964, he moved into coaching and helped then manager Jackie Milburn establish what has since become the club’s prolific youth scheme, but Milburn’s exit and the arrival of Bill McGarry in 1965, saw him leave the club. Moving away from football he took over the Greyhound pub in the Suffolk village of Gosbeck until 1968 when he returned to his native Aberdeen to run a fish merchants. The Malcolms then moved to Channel Islands where they ran a hotel. In 1985 they headed back to Suffolk where Ken became a driver for Fisons, retiring in 1991. He maintained his connections with the game and Town through, respectively, a coaching role at local non-league side Whitton United and as regular attendee at player reunion functions at Portman Road. | Ken Malcolm, a regular for the Blues during Sir Alf Ramsey`s time as manager, has died at Ipswich Hospital aged 79 after a long illness. The Scottish left-back was with Town after joining from Arbroath in 1954 until his retirement 10 years later.
Malcolm was in the 1956/57 Third Division (South) title-winning side and missed only one game as Ramsey`s Blues won the Second Division in 1960/61.

| He is my dad, sadly he is now in a residential home with acute dementia, brought about by a simple Knee replacement operation at Heath Road Hospital Ipswich last November (2005). He waited years for a new Knee and had an adverse reaction to the anasthetic.
The tragedy is, that nowadays this situation would never have arisen. The higherarchy of football do not have to rely on the NHS.
I do know that my father and his colleagues played football for the love of the game and certainly not for the money and I beleive were better people for it.
