| From Yahoo! Sport: Former Ipswich manager Jim Magilton has accused the club of a "long and unnecessary dispute" after finally settling his legal case against them. Magilton said in a statement: "It was disappointing and upsetting that a club I had served so loyally for so many years, as a player, club captain, and then manager, chose to try and deny me the compensation agreed in my contract, when we sadly parted company in 2009. I tried to obtain a sensible settlement, and even made an offer for less than the sum now agreed, but they still would not agree to my proposals. Instead, they continued to raise more unfounded issues, which they either then abandoned or have now withdrawn. It has been a long, tiring and unnecessary dispute but I am delighted that I have, with the support of the League Managers Association and its outstanding legal team, entirely cleared my name and put the record straight. | Manager Jim Magilton and his assistant John Gorman have left Queens Park Rangers by mutual consent.
Magilton was suspended after an incident on 7 December at Vicarage Road, where QPR lost 3-1 to Watford.
A club statement read: "Recent events have been widely reported and whilst Jim Magilton completely denies the allegations, with the full support of John Gorman, it has been agreed it is in the best interests of the club and Jim Magilton if the parties move on in their separate ways. | Magilton, a former Liverpool apprentice, enjoyed a playing career at Oxford United, Southampton and Sheffield Wednesday before a loan move to Town in January 1999, a move that was made permanent just over a month later. Captain of the side during the 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons, “Magic” made 315 appearances for the Blues before an emotional “farewell” appearance at Portman Road in the Championship game against Derby County in April 2006. Highly regarded by Blue’s supporters, the midfielder, who was capped 52 times by his native Northern Ireland, will long be remembered for the hat-trick he scored in the play-off semi-final defeat of Bolton Wanderers in May 2000 that earned Town a place at Wembley and, ultimately, promotion to the Premiership. Following the departure of Joe Royle at the end of the 2005-06 campaign, Magilton became his surprise successor, in a management change that also saw Academy Director, and former Town youth and reserve player, Brian Klug appointed as first team coach. | I was at Jim Magilton`s debut against Sunderland at the stadium of Light. He made an immediate difference to a static and predictable side. He was just what the club needed culture, skill and vision.
He is a wonderful ambassador for this football club and is one of the most astute signings in the recent years.
I for one hopes that he plays for another couple of years and then ITFC give him a coaching position.
