David was born Broome just over the county border from Bungay in Suffolk. The Deacon family were all keen sportsman and his brother Joe and nephew David were regulars at Portman Road in the 1970`s and 80`s.

Met Dave through amateur footy in Ipswich when he used to run Bramford Road Old Boys in the old Ipswich & District league. He was involved in both Sat and Sun teams, did everything for the club in all weathers including running the line. I worked and played football with son Paul, a decent GK, and also played alongside other son John on Sundays, along with the Alderton brothers, Dave Stevens and other talented players whose names I forget. Dave had infectious enthusiasm. Always remember him as a football nut and a smashing bloke.
