| I remember David Best on many occasions and particulary when I spoke to him after a league cup tie at Craven Cottage against Fulham (2-2 draw by the way) in October 1973 warning him how nasty the Italians of Lazio would be on their return leg tie at the Olympic Stdium in Rome. | I was at uptown park circa 1970 when David Best gave one of the finest goalkeeping displays I've ever seen. Despite being injured he gave an amazing performance between the posts to secure a 0-0 draw. West Ham were virtually camped around our penalty area but he stopped everything thrown at him. He received a fantastic ovation at the final whistle and one national paper gave him 10 out of 10 next morning in its ratings. It's lingered long in the memory Paul Lazarus 15-01-2013 |

| david has been my BEST mate since we worked together at Westwind Turbines in Sandford in 1980, He went to live in South Africa in 2007 where he still resides. | Watched most of his home game appearances as a scruffy kid,there was alot of scruffy kids in those days.
Dave was in and out of the team sharing appearances with the other goalkeeper Ken Hancock.
In some games "Besty" was the difference between a win and a defeat...he would stop nearly everything thrown at him.
The one thing that made football in those days was the crowd chants and the old fashioned clothes worn in those days.In comparison,there is no atmosphere at Portman Road these days. I remember the traditional music played when the teams came out and some of the old pop records they used to play before the game.

| I attended Wareham school when Buster was there,we were in same pe class when vanderpant was sports master n David played for school n wareham rangers.I used to watch him play at Boscombe when he played for them.I remember when he turned down Man utd when they wanted to take him on.I believe he managed dorchester in later years.Dont know where he is now but wish him the best n shall always remember him building the bonfires each year on wareham walls lol.My website is http://www.thegypsypoet.co.uk,

| I was born and bred in the same town as Dave, had my first school holiday job washing up in a restaurant where daves sister in law was a waitress, went to school with his nephew (a handy footballer) but gained more notoriety by having photos published in "readers wives" section of a top shelf mag.
His other nephew has been to Thailand (where I live) for a few holidays but fortunately for him he forgets to bring a camera. Dave is now living in South Africa and his nephew is on the case to get tickets for the 2010 World Cup. Philip Vye 10-10-2008 |

| David Best lived next door to me when he was playing for Pompey. He was a really nice bloke, and used to practise on the grass outside our houses with his kids taking pot-shots. He was still very agile and very quick, and not many got past him.

| Bestie was between the sticks for Town for my very first Blues home game. Despite being a considerable time back I still remember being amused by the North Stand chant of 'E for B and David Best'. Apparently there was an Egg Marketing Board TV advert at the time, featuring MUFCs George Best, and the jingle 'E for B and Georgie Best'. Guess you had to be there! Phil 13-10-2003 |
