An England U16 international, the attacking midfielder joined the School of Excellence at Ipswich at the age of 11. He progressed through the age groups until he was offered a scholarship at 16 and joined the Academy full-time in July, 2000. An integral member of the U17 League winning team and the successful FA Youth Cup Team that reached the semi-finals in 2001. Having established himself in the Dale Roberts' reserve side, Darren progressed well during 2001/02 and made his first team debut as a substitute against Arsenal at Highbury in April, 2002. Scored on his first league start against Walsall. (2002-12-22)
