| 'Hammy' was a complete gentleman off the pitch. I remember as a 11 year old boy him in 1971 inspecting a Boys' Brigade Display in Carrickfergus. Signed dozens of autographs and answered all our questions about Georgie Best! Bryan worked in Shorts Aircraft Factory in Belfast prior to joining Ipswich. I think he needed his first season at Ipswich to build his fitness up after playing part-time in the Irish League. I also remember him scoring for NI in a 1-0 win over Wales in May 1971. | Bumped into Bryan Hamilton in Glasgow on 16 March 1997, remember the date, coz it coincided with a Rangers/Celtic game at Parkhead and the Gers ran out 1-0 winners, thanks to a Brian Laudrup goal. He was actually walking hand in hand with his Missus and was more or less killing time and probably about to attend the Old Firm game later that day. At that particular time, he was the Manager of the Northern Ireland International side and later on that morning I also sighted Alex McLeish, who was then Motherwell Boss and he ended up managing a British Countries National side in the shape of Scotland. Where Alex McLeish was, was in the bounds of Cathkin High School in Cambuslang, 5 miles south east of Glasgow and he was watching one of his Sons play for AFC Celtic, surprisingly enough and at that, their opponents were Rangers Supporters Association Boys Club, small world, right enough. I do not have any of Bryan Hamilton's domestic appearances for Distillery or Linfield in NI, but I do know that in his time at Windsor Park, he made a dozen Euro appearances for The Blues and that he scored 3 goals.
