| I saw Bobby play many times for Hearts.He did his national srvice while playing with them.In these days the players were allowed to play on a Sat for their teams.There was also a British Army team who played mid week friendlies.
Bobby was a fast player with a great shot.At his best he was a very good player.He had his off days but during the 1959/60 season at Hearts when they last won the Scottish League he played in virtually every game.One of the best goals I have ever seen in my life came from his foot.It was a League Cup Quarter Final Second Leg against a Motherwell side which consisted of Ian St John.The first leg was a 1 All draw and the second leg was played midweek before Tynecastle`s record post war crowd of over 49 000.Bobby collected a ball just before the half way line ran a few paces over it and hit this screamer that the Motherwell keeper never saw.A great goal from a very good player.Heplayed inside left that night which was his best pos.although he has played on the wing. | Bobby Blackwood played for the Scottish Football League (SFL) against the English Football League in the 1959-60 season: Wed 23 Mar 1960, at Highbury (England won 1-0), attendance 35,508.
The SFL line-up that night included Ian St John who was playing for Motherwell at the time.
