| Alex, a central defender, is the son of the former Manchester United and Norwich City player, and now Birmingham City manager, Steve Bruce. He began his career at Blackburn before joining his father at St Andrews in January 2005. Loans spells at Oldham, Sheffield Wednesday and Tranmere Rovers have met with mixed success. At Oldham he scored the deciding penalty kick in a shoot-out to decide the winners of the LDV Vans Northern Final, and at Wednesday he helped the Owls gain promotion out of League One via the Play-Off’s. His final loan spell at Prenton Park however was terminated just two-months into a planned six-month’s on Merseyside. Qualifying to play for the Republic of Ireland through a grandmother he has already committed his future international career to them.
