Tranmere Rovers 1 Ipswich Town 1
Tranmere battled back for a point after being outplayed for long periods by relegation-threatened Ipswich.
David Johnson, in sparkling form for the visitors, grabbed his fourth goal in five games with a close-range header in the 27th minute, but Lee Jones cancelled that out with a 73rd minute equaliser.
Tranmere took the early initiative, David Kelly charging down a clearance by keeper Richard Wright in the third minute, only for the ball to fall behind the Ipswich bar, before Kenny Irons headed wide.
But Ipswich hit back, Bobby Petta seeing an eighth minute shot deflected for a corner and Johnson having a header tipped away.
Back came Tranmere, though, with Alan Morgan well off target with a long-range effort and Kelly heading over a Gary Stevens cross after 22 minutes.
At the other end Johnson headed over a Mauricio Taricco cross, before making no mistake from Petta's centre to put Ipswich ahead. Tranmere nearly equalised a minute later, but Wright saved well from a powerful header by Dave Challinor.
Liam O'Brien then fired well off target when set up by Jones, who had an effort deflected into the sidenetting after 39 minutes. Ipswich nearly increased their lead two minutes later, when a 20-yard effort by Matt Holland rebounded from the crossbar.
Then it needed an excellent one-handed save by Steve Simonsen to deny Johnson on the stroke of half-time.
The visitors were denied what seemed a clear penalty in the 52nd minute when Johnson was brought down by Gary Stevens.
Tranmere player-manager John Aldridge joined the action for the last half hour and revitalised his side.
They equalised after good work by Dave Challinor, but Jones was hurt in the act of scoring and was carried off on a stretcher.
Tranmere then almost won the game in injury time, John Morrissey blazing wide of a gaping goal.
Tranmere's Morgan and Irons were booked, as were the Ipswich duo of Adam Tanner and Jason Cundy.
