Ipswich 0-1 Crystal Palace
David Wright admits he is getting “carried away” by the brilliance of the young Palace princes.
Veteran Wright, 31, went back to his old club Ipswich as a midfield anchorman and was in raptures about the likes of Wilfried Zaha, Sean Scannell and Nathaniel Clyne.
“I get so carried away watching the skills of these youngsters, that I lose a bit of concentration on my own game sometimes,” he revealed. “It’s quite an experience to be operating alongside these lads.
“I’m out there to help give a solid base, and it is a great privilege to be playing at the heart of a team with so much pace and genuine quality.”
Central defender and skipper Paddy McCarthy was the 54th- minute match-winner as the south Londoners made it three away wins on the trot.
Pacey Palace were the better team from start to finish as they ended Ipswich’s six-game unbeaten run in front of their biggest home crowd of the season, 24,763. The goal came as Scannell crossed for McCarthy to fire home from close range.
Danny Collins, the Ipswich centre-half on loan from Stoke, felt that his team were: “Scruffy and sloppy on the ball. Palace played really well and we weren’t quite at it.”
Town also had full-back Aaron Cresswell sent off right at the end for two yellow cards, one for a first- half foul, and the other for dissent.
Palace chief Dougie Freedman declared: “I was confident a goal would come, but it was from an unlikely source in Paddy.”
