Late Wilnis
strike clinches all three-points
The Dutch duo of Martijn Reuser and Fabian
Wilnis combine in the final minute at Highfield Road to secure yet another away
win.
With the game heading for a goalless draw, in
a generally poor game, Wilnis stole unmarked into the Coventry penalty area
to head home a perfectly flighted right wing cross from Reuser.
First Half: Coventry
started as the more livelier of the two sides.
In the first minute
Bellamy broke down the left wing but the ball went out for a goal kick before
he could cross, Roussel just failed to make contact with a probing Thompson
cross, and Mark Venus put in a well timed tackle to prevent Morocan Hadji from
shooting.
Ten minutes had
gone before Town's first real attack.
Coventry conceded
a free kick some five yards from the edge of their penalty area, but the resulting
free kick from Mark Venus was blocked by the defensive wall, and a few minutes
later an in-swinging Mark Venus corner was headed just over by James Scowcroft.
Richard Wright
first real action of the game came on 15 minutes when he punched clear a Coventry
free-kick and then got his fingertips to a cross to prevent Roussel from heading
at goal.
Kirkland, the Coventry
'keeper, was then called into action. First to save well from a 20-yard Marcus
Stewart strike and minutes later to save again from a Marcus Stewart effort
that was heading for the left-hand corner of his goal.
In the final fifteen
minutes of the first period, Thompson shot well hide and wide on two occasions,
and James Scowcroft was just beaten to the ball by Kirkland who punched clear
from a Jamie Clapham cross.
Second Half: A
similar start to the second half with Coventry again looking the most likely
to score but headers from Roussel and Breen were comfortably saved by Richard
Wright.
On 55 minutes a
Jim Magilton effort from just outside the area was struck straight at the Coventry
'keeper.
Richard Wright
got his hands to, but could not hold, a long range shot from Telfer. The Town
defence were able to clear the resulting loose ball.
After 68 minutes
Martijn Reuser was introduced in place of Jermaine Wright, and a minute later
Titus Bramble came on in place of the injured John McCreal , who minutes earlier
had collided with a post after clearing a loose ball with Bellamy in pursuit.
Fabian Wilnis was
then booked for a late tackle on Coventry's Chippo, the first Town player to
be booked in a league for almost two months, although Titus Bramble was fortunate
not to have been booked minutes earlier for a clumsy challenge.
With twenty minutes
left the deadlock was almost broken by Thompson, but his 35-yard free kick was
pushed onto the corner of the woodwork by Richard Wright and out for a corner.
And with just ten minutes left a header from Thompson looped just over the bar
and onto the top of the goal netting.
Then came Fabian
Wilnis's last gasp winner.
Martijn Reuser
collected the ball on the right wing and struck a perfect cross for Fabian Wilnis
to head powerfully home from 6 yards.
Not one the most
impressive of Town's performances this season but another three-points nonetheless.
