Our comments

Began his playing career at local club Port Vale before joining Huddersfield Town in 1951. Won four England caps. Joined Town as Manager in 1964 after managerial spells at Bournemouth and Watford. Guided Town to the Second Division Championship in 1968. Is released from his contract after just 4 month of the 68/69 campaign to join Wolverhampton Wanderers. (2003-12-15)

Andrew Thomas (Ipswich Town): Sadly it has been announced on the BBC news site that Bill has died aged 77. He also managed Newcastle United as well. (2005-03-17)
