Ipswich at the World Cup

10 Bits of World Cup Finals Trivia

Mick Mills captained his country in all 5 of England's games at Spain '82.
John Wark's 29th minute goal for Scotland against New Zealand, in the same tournament, was the first by a Town player in the World Cup Finals.
Wark's appearance in that game was also the first by a Town player in the finals.
Bontcho Guentchev has progressed the furthest in the Finals, reaching the semi's with Bulgaria at USA '94.
Guentchev is the only Town player to have taken a spot kick in a penalty shoot-out and scored (in his countries 3-1 victory over Mexico).
Terry Butcher is the only Town player to have appeared in two World Cup Finals (Spain and Mexico). He also played for England at Italia '90 whilst a Glasgow Rangers player.
The 2002 World Cup was the fourth to feature a Town player.
Matt Hollands's appearance in Ireland's penalty shoot-out defeat by Spain (June 16th, 2002) was the 23rd World Cup Finals game to feature a Town player.
Six Ipswich players where selected for Spain '82 (Mills, Mariner & Butcher for England, and Wark, Brazil & Burley for Scotland)
Ipswich are the only English club side to have provided the nation with a World Cup Winning manager :-)
