Ipswich at the European Championships Unlike the 2002 World Cup finals in Japan/Korea where we had two Town players to cheer on (Matt Holland for Ireland and Amir Karic for Slovenia) the 2004 European Championships in Portugal will feature no Town players at all. In fact while the record of Town player's at the World Cup makes somewhat sexy reading (see Ipswich at the World Cup) stats and facts relating to Town players in the EC finals are a bit sparse. However, six years after his final game for Town, and at the ripe old age of 37, Blue's legend Arnold Muhren starred for his home nation in the 1988 finals in Germany. He was an inspiring factor for his nation as they triumphed in the tournament defeating the Soviet Union 2-0 in the final. Marco van Basten's goal in that final is rated as one of the best ever in the tournament, and Muhren laid on one of his trademark, inch perfect, cross-field passes for the assist! EC Finals Trivia
