Perfect Harmony? The FA's latest gaffe saw the publication of a DVD claiming to feature the greatest post-war England internationals, without mention of a single black player. Yes, no John Barnes, no Ian Wright, etc., etc. Since Viv Anderson's England debut in 1978, 48 black players have represented England, the most recent being Manchester City's Shaun Wright-Phillips. Ignoring the latest faux-pas from the FA, English football has made huge advances in eradicating racism in the last twenty-years, and with the exception of France, the English senior side regularly contains more black players than any other European nation. What of our own Club? While it would be naive to suggest that Club and fan's are squeaky-clean, race has never appeared to be an issue at FPR. Ipswich born Johnny Miller became the first black to play for Town in a home fixture with Coventry City in October, 1969. A further thirty-two black and Asian players have represented Town since, a list that contains some memorable names: Nabil Abidallah, Samassi Abou, Dalien Atkinson, David Barnes, Chris Bart-Williams, Darren Bent, Marcus Bent, Titus Bramble, Michael Cole, Drissa Diallo, Louie Donowa, Jason Dozzell, Keiron Dyer, Brian Gayle, Finidi George, Marlon Harewood, Earl Jean, David Johnson, Chris Kiwomya, Richard Logan, Raphael Meade, Neil Midgley, John Miller, Bobby Petta, Georges Santos, Mark Stein, Manuel Thetis, Gus Uhlenbeek, David Whyte, Fabian Wilnis, Ulrich Wilson, Jermaine Wright and Romeo Zondervan.
