Derby County (a) 0-2

A miserable end to a miserable week. While Derby had more of the play, both their goals resulted from dubious decisions. Lokomotive Leipzig (a) 0-1

Town went out of the UEFA Cup despite a great display. They battled bravely against considerable pressure, but ultimately the match was decided by three incidents. Mick Mills was sent off for retaliating after being struck in the face by Wolfram Loewe; Brian Talbot`s drive crashed against the bar in the 88th minute; and after five penalties each left the score at 3-3, Lutz Moldt was successful but Allan Hunter`s spot kick was saved by Werner Friese. More

Arsenal (h) 2-2

Wolverhampton Wanderers (a) 1-3

Town`s ill fortune with injuries continued. Having substituted David Johnson, who struggled on for nearly half an hour after taking a first minute knock, they were effectively reduced to ten men by Geoff Palmer`s tackle on debutant Bruce Twamley shortly before the break. Wolves might have had more goals but for a fine display by Laurie Sivell. More

Lokomotive Leipzig (h) 1-0

Despite almost total domination, Town had to settle for a single late goal. Scorer Kevin Beattie had been voted the PFA`s Young Footballer of the Year four days earlier. Lokomotive barely showed as an attacking force but frustrated Town with resolute defence and a bit of luck, notably when Mick Mills struck the underside of the bar after 11 minutes. More

Norwich City (h) 1-1

Town were in control for most of a disappointing local derby, only to concede a late goal and with it a point. Clive Woods, replacing the injured Mick Lambert, had an excellent game, providing a string of dangerous crosses. More
