Town`s plans, built around a defensive line up, were upset by an early goal. They managed an equaliser, Mick Lambert forcing home a Jimmy Robertson corner - the first goal Liverpool had conceded at Anfield since 9 January - but the Reds gained a deserved victory. More

Burnley (a) 2-2

A match full of incident and, at times, desperation. Colin Waldron shot wide from the penalty spot after Geoff Hammond (pictured below) had brought down Steve Kindon. Mick Lambert scored with his first touch as substitute and Peter Morris at last gained some reward for his powerful shooting with, surprisingly, his first goal of the season. Burnley`s late equaliser came when Geoff Nulty just managed to get his head to a wildly mis-cued shot by Doug Collins. The result left Burnley in a relegation spot, six points behind Ipswich. More

Tottenham Hotspur (h) 1-2

Jimmy Robertson shone against one of his former clubs. Frank Clarke had a ‘goal’ disallowed for offside but Town looked set for two points until Martin Chivers cut out a Morris back-pass to set up an equaliser. Spurs then scored a late winner in a goalmouth scramble. More

West Ham United (a) 2-2

Played in inches of mud this was not a classic game, but it lacked nothing in excitement and determination. Jimmy Greaves showed typical goal-poaching skill and Billy Bonds hit a post in the first half. Bobby Bell opened his Town scoring account with a diving header from a Robertson free kick. More

Newcastle United (h) 1-0

A scrappy, dull game decided by an untidy goal. Jimmy Robertson`s shot was deflected and eluded both Mick Mills and Willie McFaul. Ian Collard followed up but the ball was already over the line. Robertson deserved the goal, since he was always the player most likely to break the deadlock. More
