Match 232: 30-8-1960: Division 2

Ipswich avenged their defeat at Scunthorpe in a lively and entertaining match. The big mystery of a skilful struggle was that only two goals were scored. Match 231: 27-8-1960: Division 2

With Wilf Hall making his debut in place of the injured Roy Bailey, Ipswich ran out comfortable winners without playing particularly well. The game swung on a head injury incurred by Ken Oxford as he tried to prevent Town`s equaliser. Defending the goal at the North Stand end, Oxford lost Aled Owen`s floated centre in the sun and ran into a goalpost. He was taken to hospital where it was learned he had suffered a broken cheekbone. Derby goalscorer Jack Parry deputised with distinction as the match became almost one-way traffic towards his goal. More

Match 230: 25-8-1960: Division 2

Town`s football in midfield was pretty but rarely took them into the danger zone. A more direct Scunthorpe gained their first victory in five meetings between the clubs, sealing the game with three goals in six minutes before half time. Ipswich were disappointing in a rather scrappy second half, not helped by Roy Bailey suffering a twisted knee. More

Match 229: 20-8-1960: Division 2

Andy Nelson was Town`s new captain. Roy Stephenson, who played for the ‘first’ team in the trial match, was injured so Derek Rees was selected - and scored twice. Roy Bailey, none the worse for a cartilage operation, was prominent as Orient, with Malcolm Graham little more than a limping passenger for most of the half, pressed strongly after the interval. It was Town`s first victory in the opening match of the season since they won 2-0 at Walsall on 19 August 1953. More
