Brighton & Hove Albion (a) 4-1
Match 209: 28-12-1959: Division 2
Town completed a great holiday double with their second away win of the season. Despite scoring Brighton`s goal from the penalty spot after Larry Carberry was penalised for a tackle on Fred Jones, Roy Jennings had a game to forget. He missed a twice-taken penalty in the 55th minute, his first effort hitting the bar and the second sailing wide, and was at fault for both Ray Crawford`s goals. The second half was broadcast on BBC radio with commentary by Raymond Glendenning. Colin Lundstrum`s final game. More

Match 208: 26-12-1959: Division 2
Ipswich ended a run of five games without a win, adding punch in attack to their good football. John Elsworthy, back to his best after a spate of injuries, had two long-range shots blocked. The recalled Ray Crawford found the net while Ted Phillips took his total for the season to 16, firing home his second of the match after Tommy Bisset cleared a Jimmy Leadbetter effort off the line. Match 207: 19-12-1959: Division 2
After surviving Huddersfield`s early onslaught Ipswich, with Jimmy Leadbetter sparkling on the left wing, struck the woodwork through Ted Phillips and Colin Lundstrum before taking the lead. They looked comfortable until John Elsworthy was penalised for a challenge on Derek Hawksworth and Hawksworth himself scrambled the ball into the net from Bill McGarry`s free kick. Elsworthy was again involved when Kevin McHale took a tumble and John Coddington notched the third goal from the penalty spot. The normally restrained Alf Ramsey said afterwards that “two diabolical decisions handed Huddersfield the points on a plate”. More

Match 206: 12-12-1959: Division 2
Ray Crawford was rested after a disappointing spell but the changes made little difference to Town`s goal-shy forwards. After having nearly all the play in the first half Ipswich faded badly and a draw was a fair result. Their only goal came from a penalty, unnecessarily conceded by John Hewie who tripped Dermot Curtis when goalkeeper Willie Duff already had the ball in his hands. Andy Nelson, playing with two broken bones in a hand, dealt effectively with the threat of Stuart Leary. More
Liverpool (a) 1-3
Match 205: 5-12-1959: Division 2
Liverpool manager Phil Taylor retired through ill health and this was the Merseysiders` first match since they announced that his replacement would be the former Huddersfield boss Bill Shankly. Ipswich gave almost as good as they got in the early stages but were well beaten after Liverpool scored three times in eleven minutes. Liverpool slowed their pace in the second half but Town made little impression until Ray Crawford`s late consolation goal from close range. More
