Liverpool (h) 2-0

Match 159: 29-11-1958: Division 2

Liverpool, fourth in the league, kept Ipswich penned in their own half for long spells. Vic Snell again had a fine match, as did Larry Carberry, while Town often looked dangerous on quick breaks. Two late goals in a hard, fast game gave Town a hard-earned victory, Ray Crawford breaking the deadlock with a header from Ken Malcolm`s free kick. More

Grimsby Town (a) 3-2

Match 158: 22-11-1958: Division 2

Grimsby suffered their first home league defeat of the season despite twice taking the lead through Ron Rafferty. On each occasion Town struck back quickly and Ray Crawford`s opportunism gave them a half time lead. The Ipswich defence took a terrific hammering after the interval but, with Vic Snell outstanding against the free-scoring Tommy Briggs, they hung on for both points. It left Town in 12th place with 17 points from 18 games. Fulham led the division with 28 points. More

Brighton & Hove Albion (h) 5-3

Match 157: 15-11-1958: Division 2

Ipswich and Brighton served up a thriller in which the result was in doubt until Town rapped in three goals in seven minutes towards the end. Ray Crawford scored a superb hat trick, while Bobby Johnstone`s two great 25-yard shots at the North Stand end were his first for the club from open play. His dance of celebration defied description! The ball was also in the net on three other occasions, two efforts by Ipswich and one by Brighton being ruled out for offside. More

Sheffield United (a) 0-2

Charlton Athletic (h) 3-1

Match 155: 1-11-1958: Division 2

Sixth-placed Charlton brought considerable support with them but Ipswich, languishing in 17th position, had a great first half and were good value for their victory despite fading after the break. Ray Crawford and Ted Phillips appeared together for the first time but Peter Berry took the main goalscoring honours with two splendid headers. More
