Swindon Town (a) 1-0

Match 27: 31-12-1955: Division 3 (South)

Although they were bottom of the league, Swindon were on a good run of form and Ipswich became the first team to beat them in ten league and cup matches. On a gluepot of a pitch Town looked the better side throughout and should have won more conclusively. In the decisive battle Billy Reed had the beating of Geoff Fox, the former Ipswich player, who was Swindon`s captain and coach. More

Match 26: 27-12-1955: Division 3 (South)

Injury-hit Ipswich trounced Colchester in the second half and but for Percy Ames would have won more convincingly. John Elsworthy and Ron Hunt had their names taken as an even and eventful first half turned into a runaway victory. Having taken 5 points from a possible six over Christmas, Town moved back into 2nd position, one point behind Orient who still had a game in hand. More

Match 25: 26-12-1955: Division 3 (South)

Billy Baker made his debut in an action-packed local derby as Ipswich came from behind three times to earn a draw. Basil Acres suffered a split eyebrow in a clash with Sam McLeod, returning after treatment to play on the left wing. Tommy Parker replaced him in defence and was unlucky enough to concede an own goal. With time running out he had the opportunity to redeem himself when Town were awarded a penalty for handball, and this time he tucked it away confidently. More

Match 24: 24-12-1955: Division 3 (South)

Ipswich scrambled to victory in a desperate struggle, former Norwich player Tom Johnston scoring twice as County came close to salvaging a point. Town could have saved themselves a nervous last seven minutes but after Tom Brown was brought down in the penalty area, Tommy Parker`s spot kick struck a post and bounced clear. More

Torquay United (a) 2-2

Match 23: 17-12-1955: Division 3 (South)

The kick off was delayed for nearly two minutes by a stray dog on the pitch. There had been heavy rain in Torquay and one side of the pitch resembled a pond. Town looked a beaten side at half time but found a new lease of life after the interval. The final result was a shock for Torquay manager Eric Webber. Having spent the second half dealing with the rush for FA Cup tickets for Torquay`s tie with Birmingham City, he emerged from his office to learn his team had dropped a point. More

Exeter City (h) 2-2

Match 22: 3-12-1955: Division 3 (South)

Ipswich had more of the play against an Exeter side that had won seven of its last eight games. But they never looked impressive and the visitors, who played more than half the match with ten men after Ron Burke limped off, were good value for their point. Ray John had the ball in the net in the first minute only for it to be disallowed for offside, while the referee also ruled out an Ipswich effort following a George McLuckie free kick shortly before full time. Town were now in 5th place, one point ahead of Norwich and two behind leaders Leyton Orient, who had a game in hand. More
